Reverend Michael L. Henderson and First Lady Twanna Henderson founded New Beginnings Community Church on October 12, 1999 at the Albemarle Road Recreation Center located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The church began as a Tuesday evening Bible study group with ten members. The first lesson launched a series based on the Book of Acts about the beginning of the Church Age, and how the people of God carry out the mission that God lays upon them when He sets them apart for Himself.
The Spirit of God met the group each Tuesday evening, as the Word was taught with power and authority, and accompanied by a cappella praise and worship. Each week souls were saved, lives were changed, and people were added to the body of Christ.

In January 2000, God spoke to Pastor Henderson about finding a permanent home for New Beginnings. The manservant introduced himself to the Pastor and leadership team of New Hope Baptist church, and the two congregations began worshipping with each other. After each service, members of New Beginnings would congregate in the choir stand to be exhorted and charged by Pastor Henderson.

In April 2000, on Easter Sunday, the congregation began worshipping in the New Hope sanctuary at 7:45 a.m., with only one musician to support the praise and worship. After service, the New Beginnings congregation attended Sunday school classes taught by New Hope members. The Tuesday evening Bible study was also moved to the New Hope sanctuary. Later that year, Pastor and First Lady conducted the first leadership conference and marriage enrichment conference.

In October 2000, the first anniversary celebration included a special service preached by Dr. Richard Allen Farmer, and established a formal affiliation with the Mideast Baptist General Conference.

By the fall of 2001, Pastor and First Lady began looking for a new home for the 150- member congregation. They held the first service in the newly renovated Lawyers Square Plaza facility on February 3, 2002. Nine people accepted Christ and joined the membership. In June, the church acquired an additional 4,000 square feet to form the annex, which was used for youth church, training, and special events.

In June 2004, the Lord gave Pastor Henderson a vision to acquire land in east Charlotte. The search for the location led to the purchase of the land on Stillwell Road in Matthews, North Carolina. On October 16, 2005, we broke ground to begin the build of what is now known as the main campus.

On November 18, 2006, we celebrated the opening of the new Worship Center with an open house and dedication service.
Over the next two years, the membership continued to grow exponentially, and the church transitioned to three morning worship services. We also celebrated the opening of the Sunrise Christian Bookstore, and various ministries were born. As God continued to add to the body, the Lord spoke to Pastor Henderson about acquiring the eleven acres adjacent to the church to prepare for phase two of the campus.

In September 2009, due to phenomenal growth, the church transitioned to four worship services, and construction began on the Family Life Center, a 30,000 sq. ft. addition that serves as a multipurpose facility for the church and community. The center houses an indoor track, fitness rooms, basketball and volleyball courts, and a dance studio. Additionally, the center offers a computer lab, classrooms, meeting rooms, and a state-of-the-art conference room.

In November 2010, the Family Life Center opened its doors to members. The official grand opening was held in April 2011, which provided an opportunity for members and the community to tour the facility and attend classes. With over 4,500 members and growing, the congregation began using the new facility to hold three worship services each Sunday.

God continues to use New Beginnings to serve the unchurched and unsaved in the Charlotte metro region. Pastor Henderson continues to teach the Word and the word keeps spreading about the anointed manservant of this house.

In October 2011, in order to serve Indian Trail, Monroe, and the surrounding areas, New Beginnings opened a second campus at Sun Valley Middle School, located in Indian Trail, North Carolina. We are now one church in two locations. God is faithful and continues to do great things, for which we are exceedingly glad.
